CHANNELVIEW, Texas – Nov. 4, 2015 – LyondellBasell, one of the world’s largest plastics, chemical and refining companies, renewed its commitment to the Channelview ISD Education Foundation with a $7,500 grant. The funding provides needed materials and equipment, like microscopes and electronic components for science experiments that will allow teachers to maximize classroom learning and better prepare students to enter the workforce.
“LyondellBasell fully understands the importance of education in preparing a skilled workforce for the future, so it is a high priority for us,” said LyondellBasell Channelview Complex Operations Manager and Channelview ISD Education Foundation Board Member Craig Montgomery. “We need to ensure our teachers have the needed resources to effectively engage and encourage today’s students.”
The Channelview Complex has been a ‘Founding Donor’ of the Channelview ISD Education Foundation since its inception in 2013, donating more than $22,000. Grants given to the Foundation have covered the cost of training materials and equipment for college preparatory and technical courses that are not covered in the school’s regular budget.
“We thank our good friends from LyondellBasell for their continued support of our district’s students and staff,” said Channelview ISD Superintendent Greg Ollis. “This donation is one more example of the many ways LyondellBasell expresses their commitment and genuine care for our students, staff and community.”
Previous donations from LyondellBasell have enabled the physics and engineering classes at Channelview High School to purchase equipment that helped students build large-scale rockets for a science competition.
“The Education Foundation helps so many teachers on so many different levels,” said Montgomery. “We applaud and appreciate all their efforts.”
