CLINTON, Iowa. – Sept. 22, 2017 – Representatives of the Clinton police and fire, Clinton County Sheriff’s Department, Emergency Management Agency, Clinton County Communications Team and Mercy Medical Center participated in a special training exercise at the LyondellBasell Clinton Complex on Thursday, September 21.
Each year the Clinton Complex plans and executes a training exercise to test the group’s collaboration and readiness. This year LyondellBasell joined forces with local emergency responders to actively coordinate efforts and resources to effectively resolve a challenging situation.
“Our top priority is always the safety of our employees and the community, and this drill allowed us to exercise our emergency procedures in a safe learning environment,” said Jim Hillier, LyondellBasell Clinton Complex site manager.
“We have been working with LyondellBasell Clinton Complex for months to plan this event because it involved a multiple agency response,” said Kevin Gyrion, Clinton Chief of Police. “Although there are always lessons to take away, we are proud of the action taken by our trained professionals today.”
Together, over 50 individual emergency responders participated in the exercise.
“It is critical to prepare, communicate, and periodically test our emergency procedures,” said Robert Bolen, LyondellBasell’s manager of health, safety, environmental and security. “We hope we never have to use any of the plans we have in place, but this type of training better equips us to handle a variety of circumstances.”
