CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Sept. 15, 2015 – Employees from the LyondellBasell Corpus Christi Plant and their families worked to improve The Ark Assessment Center and Emergency Shelter for Youth as part of the company’s annual Global Care Day. Volunteers provided maintenance to a butterfly garden, trimmed trees around the facility, cleaned flower beds, planted a vegetable garden and spruced up the facility.
“We are thankful for the volunteers at LyondellBasell for all of their hard work at the Ark during Global Care Day,” said Sister Milagros Tormo, president of the Ark’s board of Directors. “The work they are doing will make a big difference to the lives of the children that come here for help.”
The Company's 16th annual Global Care Day encourages LyondellBasell employees around the world to collectively participate in community service projects on the same day. This year, approximately 2,600 volunteers are investing their time and talents on projects in the areas of education, health and the environment – the core focuses of our Elements of Engagement community philanthropy strategy.
“The work that LyondellBasell employees accomplish on Global Care Day helps the Ark to provide a caring and nurturing environment for these children when they need it most,” said Gerardo Garza, Corpus Christi Plant reliability and maintenance engineer. “All the volunteers feel a sense of accomplishment and fulfillment at day’s end knowing that our hard work is appreciated and valued.”
The Ark Assessment Center and Emergency Shelter for Youth, a facility for abused and neglected children, is open around the clock. It offers children from birth to age 17 an emergency shelter, along with assessment and prevention services.
“We cannot find sufficient words to thank LyondellBasell for the multiple services they provide for us by giving their time, their talent and caring assistance,” Sister Tormo said.
