LyondellBasell awarded Del Mar College a $10,000 corporate grant during a check presentation at the school. Funds from the donation will support the college’s Process and Instrumentation Technology programs.
“The Process and Instrumentation Pilot Plant will provide a world class learning lab to develop the workforce for local industry,” said Vice President of Workforce Development and Strategic Initiatives Lenora Keas. “Support from industry partners, such as LyondellBasell, is key to providing this Pilot Plant.”
Del Mar College has invested in equipment and software similar to what area industries use to train students for future employment. This includes a state-of-the-art, working model of a distillation unit that is commonly used at local refineries and petrochemical plants.
“The demand for well-trained technicians is immediate and continues to grow in the area,” said LyondellBasell Corpus Christi Site Manager Randal Tatum. “This partnership with Del Mar College will help expand programs for students to learn the skills they need to fill this demand now and in the future.”
LyondellBasell’s Corpus Christi plant produces ethylene, propylene and fuel products which are used by our customers as basic building blocks for consumer plastics and other products, such as food packaging and containers to store and keep goods fresh. Located on more than 2,500 acres in northwest Corpus Christi, the plant employs approximately 270 workers.
“This contribution will provide the Pilot Plant facility with state of the art technology,” Keas said. “LyondellBasell has been a partner for many years and we greatly appreciate their support.”
