CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Dec. 17, 2015 – LyondellBasell, one of the world’s largest plastics, chemical and refining companies presented a $10,000 corporate grant to Del Mar College. The donation will support hands-on training in craft fields for local high school students.
“The demand for well-trained technicians is immediate and continues to grow,” said LyondellBasell Corpus Christi Site Manager Randal Tatum. “This partnership with Del Mar College expands programs for students to learn the skills they need in order to fill this demand now and in the future.”
The Del Mar College Process Technology and Instrumentation Department will be putting students through the paces using a new pilot plant. The advantage of that piece of equipment is that it includes a large-scale industrial system that mimics operations currently being conducted within the refining, petrochemical and oil and gas industries. .
“Del Mar College is grateful for the support of LyondellBasell in helping make this important training facility a reality,” said Del Mar College Executive Director of Development, Mary McQueen. “Overall, the pilot plant will integrate multiple career tracks and crossover skills so that students can transition into numerous areas within industry.”
Specifically, the donation will be used to purchase control room equipment and computer software to support applications within the pilot plant. Students will now be able to perform direct training and implement skills related to process, instrumentation, industrial automation and other related fields.
