EDISON, N.J. – Dec. 2, 2015 – LyondellBasell, one of the world's largest plastics, chemical and refining companies, recently awarded Middlesex County College (MCC) with a $5,000 corporate grant. The college will use the funds to purchase training equipment for its Process Technology program.
“LyondellBasell places a high priority on safety and it is imperative that new employees can adjust quickly to safely working on the equipment at our facility,” said David Schrutka, LyondellBasell Edison site manager. “This training device ensures that local students gain the critical knowledge needed to operate equipment properly in our industry.”
This new equipment teaches students the lock-out, tag-out process. This practice outlines the detailed procedures needed to isolate the equipment so workers can safely perform service and maintenance activities. Students will gain first-hand experience in a classroom environment as to how the process works, the different components involved and precise steps that must be followed.
“Support from our industry partners is critical,” says Professor Diane Trainor. “This equipment will provide students essential hands-on learning, which is so important in the area of safety training.
LyondellBasell employees also donate their time to the college by serving on its Process Control program advisory board. The program focuses on the skills needed by an entry-level technician entering the process industries. Many graduates of the program have moved on to successful careers in the manufacturing industry.
“The purchase of this sophisticated, specialized equipment would not be possible without the outside support of LyondellBasell,” said Trainor.
