State Rep. David Welter Visits LyondellBasell

April 14, 2017

MORRIS, Ill. – April 14, 2017 – The Morris Complex of LyondellBasell, one of the world’s largest plastics, chemicals and refining companies, hosted State Representative David Welter, R-Morris, for a plant tour and visit with the LyondellBasell leadership team.

"We are very fortunate to have LyondellBasell as a career opportunity for so many in our district," Welter said during the April 13 visit. Welter elaborated, "These aren’t just jobs; they’re careers."

This was the first visit to LyondellBasell for Representative Welter who was able to learn more about the issues facing manufacturing, as well as discuss matters affecting the House District 75 with the site leadership team.

"The Morris Complex has been an important asset to the community and region for more than 40 years," said Brain Angwin, LyondellBasell Morris Complex site manager. "We always welcome the opportunity to spend time with our elected officials and showcase our operations."

The Morris Complex is one of the largest petrochemical facilities in the Midwest and annually spends about $250 million in payroll, benefits and purchases from local vendors. Using natural gas liquids as a feedstock, the plant manufactures ethylene, the world’s most widely used petrochemical, which is then converted into polyethylene resins.

These resins serve as building blocks for products such as leak proof and shatterproof containers for industrial and household chemicals, packaging that protects our food from spoilage and contamination, and children’s toys that are safe and durable.

While touring the LyondellBasell Morris Complex, Illinois State Representative David Welter, R-Morris, stopped by the Quality lab where LyondellBasell tests products. Phil Cunningham, Technical Manager spoke to Rep. Welter on the rigorous testing and inspection process LyondellBasell products must meet prior to being shipped to customers.
