As we all adjust to the ever-dynamic updates regarding COVID-19, LyondellBasell employees from around the world have taken part in the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation’s We Read initiative. The We Read initiative is a collection of virtual read alouds of children’s books to help promote literacy at home.
“I loved reading to my daughter when she was little and wanted to take this opportunity to give back and help promote literacy and education,” said Dana Gill, site planner from Bay City. “During this time with children being out of school it is important for them to continue to read and learn as much as possible.”
The We Read initiative is comprised of read alouds from sports professionals, Bush family members, authors, first responders and many others who are sharing stories to help develop children’s imagination and growth.
“I was thrilled when I saw the request come through to support the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation’s We Read Initiative. Our teachers play such an important role in emphasizing reading outside of school, and I was more than happy to fill this void during the COVID-19 pandemic by reading a couple of children’s books,” said Steve Sligar, director, ITS Global Infrastructure. “I also really like to read Green Eggs and Ham!”
“It’s heartening to know that during this pandemic, there are so many companies, organizations and individuals who see beyond themselves to help others in crisis,” said Dr. Julie Finck, President of the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation. “LyondellBasell has done a wonderful job engaging their employees from around the world to take part in read alouds and support children and families while schools and libraries remain closed.”
