The America’s Change Makers video series highlights the inspiring stories of scientists, engineers and innovators who are leading sustainable change in the plastics industry.

The video series, supported by the American Chemistry Council (ACC), features Brenna Hebert, LyondellBasell optimization engineer, process improvement, in the latest episode. Raised in Southwest Louisiana, Hebert holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering with a Minor in Statistics from McNeese State University and has deep roots near the company’s Lake Charles Plant. She worked as a chemical engineer in Southwest Louisiana for the past 26 years in various roles including process, technology, operations, value enhancement and management.

“My role is to support key initiatives at our site, especially those focused on sustainability,” Hebert said. “Most of my initiatives focus on working to reduce greenhouse gases, reduce raw materials, or reduce energy.”

Filmed on site in Lake Charles, the operational efforts include the commissioning of a steam turbine generator that reduces the amount of electricity consumption. Using excess steam (Steam Turbine Generator), it can generate 25 megawatts of electricity, which is enough to power 25,000 homes.

Since filming, Hebert was promoted and accepted the position of Olefins Operations Manager at LYB.
