Following the extreme weather conditions of the May storms and Hurricane Beryl employee volunteers from LyondellBasell Channelview Complex participated in two community food, water, and ice distribution events.
On May 22, 19 volunteers assisted in a community distribution effort with Rep. Ana Hernandez, Channelview Independent School District (CISD) and Precinct 2, and others supporting 3,000 families in the Channelview community, many of whom had been without power for more than a week after a storm blew through the Houston area on May 16. LyondellBasell provided 12 pallets of water and 12 pallets of ice distributed to residents.
On July 18, another 12 volunteers participated in additional distribution efforts with CISD and Sen. Carol Alvarado following Hurricane Beryl. In scorching temperatures, individuals went another week without power. Providing access to safe food was imperative, as many were still recovering from the May storm.
During both events, volunteers from the Channelview Complex assisted with distribution, traffic control, and organizing the food, water, and ice for distribution. After the events, the LyondellBasell teams assisted with clean-up.
These events supported the company’s focus on being a responsible, good neighbor in the communities where it operates, which is in line with the LyondellBasell global corporate citizenship program, Advancing Good, which invests in charitable organizations and participates in volunteer efforts supporting three key focus areas: Advancing Our Communities, Advancing Our Planet, and Preparing Tomorrow's Workforce.
