Global chemical control

REACh | EPA TSCA

LyondellBasell is committed to the highest standards of product stewardship. We coordinate with regional businesses to define the appropriate strategy for their products and global business markets.

REACh

REACh (EC 1907/2006) is the European Regulation on Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals.

The regulation unifies and replaces many pieces of existing legislation. The aim of the regulation is to ensure a high level of protection for environment and the human health from the risk that can be posed by the uses of chemical throughout its lifecycle.

An important element in REACh is supply chain communication on the uses of chemical substances. REACh has required a revision of the Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and inclusion of relevant exposure scenarios for certain substances of concern as well as the implementation of the new Globally Harmonized System (GHS) of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (EC 1272/2008).

As a company committed to the highest standards of product stewardship, LyondellBasell complies with the requirements of REACh.

LyondellBasell has also been actively engaged for several years, through industry organizations such as the European Chemical Industry Council (CEFIC), Plastics Europe and CONCAWE to work with industry colleagues in developing implementation guidelines for the industry.

Use management

LyondellBasell is following CEFIC guidelines on collecting uses internally as well as within Consortia and other industry groups. Uses are defined in the form of Generic Exposure Scenarios (GES) titles.

Only representative

A manufacturer established outside the European Community (EC) can appoint a legal person established in the EC to fulfill, as his only representative, the obligation on importers under REACh.

For questions on REACh, customers are kindly requested to contact their regular business contacts or send their inquiries to reach@lyondellbasell.com.

U.S. EPA Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA)

The field of global chemical control regulations is rapidly expanding. As a result, these regulatory changes require continual monitoring and impact evaluation of raw materials and LyondellBasell products.

Product safety coordinates with LyondellBasell regional businesses to define the appropriate strategy for their products and countries where they market.

LyondellBasell compliance strategies rely on management systems to assimilate the necessary data and its applicability to our global products. The design and utilization of automated rules specific to regional regulations allows LyondellBasell to rely on its internal systems to identify impacted substances, track and/or control the blocks for any product impacted (produced or imported), and manage customer relationships and volume restrictions.
